How do I create a Video QR code?
Updated September 14, 2026 · 2 min read
Click Create new, then Create a QR Code, and choose Video on the Type step. Either upload a clip or switch to Use a link and paste a video URL, fill in Company / Brand and Title, style the code and click Download ✓. Video is a dynamic-only type: scanners open a hosted player page with your name and title above the video, and you can swap the video later without reprinting.

Here is how to create a Video QR code. Scanners get a page that plays your video, with your name and a title above it.
Use it on packaging as the setup video, on a trade show stand to play the demo, or on an instruction card for the step words cannot explain. Because the code is dynamic, you can swap the video later and the printed code keeps working.
In the dashboard, click Create new, then Create a QR Code. Pick Video from the type grid and leave it on Dynamic. Give the code a name, choose Use a link and paste the video URL, then add the company and a title. Choose a theme, then Download. It is saved and ready to print.
First, the video. Upload a file or paste a link. A link means nothing to upload. Second, the company name. It sits above the player. Third, the title. Say what the video shows, in a few words.
Try it on the seven-day free trial. No credit card, five dynamic QR codes. Link in the description.
When to use a Video QR code
- Product packaging. A setup video on the box instead of a folded paper guide.
- Trade show stands and posters. Play the demo on the visitor's phone when nobody is free to run it.
- Instruction cards and manuals. Show the step that is hard to explain in words.
Steps in the dashboard
- Open the wizard. In the dashboard sidebar click Create new, then Create a QR Code.
- Pick the type. On the Type step choose Video — it is in the first fifteen tiles, so you will not need More. Video is dynamic only, so the Static tab stays disabled.
- Add the video. On the Content step the first row starts in upload mode. Click Use a link to paste a YouTube, Vimeo or direct video URL instead, or drop a file under Upload a video. You can add up to ten videos.
- Describe the page. Under Page Info fill in Company / Brand, Title and an optional Description. Add a CTA Button Text and CTA URL if you want a button under the player, and tick Allow video download if viewers may keep a copy.
- Style it. On the QR Design step pick one of the ten Themes, or set your own dots, colours, frame and logo. Keep strong contrast between Dots Color and Background.
- Save and download. Click Download ✓ to create the code. For the image file, open it from My QR Codes, click Download, and pick JPEG, PNG, SVG or PDF in the Save as... dialog.
After you download
The code is now in My QR Codes, where you can rename it, tag it, file it in a folder or copy its short URL.
- Change the content later. Click Edit on the code, change the fields, then click Update ✓. The printed pattern never changes, so nothing has to be reprinted.
- Scans are counted. A dynamic scan passes through us, so the code records device, operating system, browser, referrer and country. Click Full analytics to read them. Cities and the scan map come with the free trial and the Business plan.
- Replace the clip. Edit the code and change the file or the link. The printed code plays the new video.
Common problems
The upload is rejected
Video uploads have their own cap: 5 MB on the free trial, 10 MB on Starter, 25 MB on Pro and 60 MB on Business. Host the video elsewhere and use Use a link if the file is bigger.
There is no field to paste a link
The row opens in upload mode. Click Use a link first; the URL field appears after that.
The page loads but the video will not play
The link has to point at a video a browser can play. Check it on a phone before you print the code.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a YouTube link?
Yes. Choose Use a link and paste the YouTube, Vimeo or direct video URL.
Can a Video code be static?
No. Video is dynamic only, because the player page is hosted.
Does the Video type support UTM parameters?
No. UTM tagging is deliberately left off media types, because there is no analytics on the other end of a media file.
