How do I edit a QR code's destination after printing?

Open My QR Codes, click the code you want to change, click Edit, change the destination on the Content step, then click Update ✓. The next scan goes to the new destination — the printed pattern does not change, because a dynamic QR code stores a short QRCodeStack link, not your destination. Static codes cannot be edited: their content is built into the pattern itself, so only the name, tags and folder can change.
Steps to change the destination
- Open the code. Go to My QR Codes and click its name, or use the ⋮ menu on its row and choose Edit.
- Click Edit. The page header reads Edit QR Code and the same three-step wizard opens with your saved code loaded.
- Go to the Content step. Change the field that holds the destination — see the table below for what that is on your type.
- Click Update ✓. The button sits at the top right of the wizard and shows Saving... while it works.
- Scan the printed code with a phone to confirm the new destination opens.
There is no re-download step and no new image to distribute. Everything you already printed keeps pointing at the same code, and the code now points somewhere new.
You can also change the name, folder, tags, tracking and rules in the same edit — nothing forces you to touch the destination alone.
What counts as the destination for each type
Some types redirect a scanner straight to a link; others show a page we host for you. What you edit differs.

Display types do not have a "link" to swap. Scanners land on a page we host at the code's own address, so editing the fields is what changes what they see. For the longer write-up of why this works, read how to edit a QR code destination.
Does editing change the QR image?
Editing content does not touch the image. Editing anything on the QR Design step does: the image is generated again with the new colours, frame or logo and replaces the old one in your account.
Even then, printed copies keep working. The link inside the pattern is the same; only the artwork differs, so an old printout and a new download both resolve to the same code.
On codes created before design settings were saved, the Design step shows: Design settings not saved for this QR code. You can safely edit content, name, tags and other settings. If you change anything on that step, the image is regenerated and the current image is replaced — so re-download it before sending artwork to a printer.
Why static codes cannot be edited
A static code has no destination stored on our side. The content — the URL, the WiFi password, the phone number — is encoded in the black and white pattern, so a scanner never reaches us and there is nothing to re-point.
Opening a static code for editing shows one greyed-out Content step with the notice: Static QR Code — Content is embedded directly in the QR code image and cannot be changed. You can still update the name, tags, and folder.

Common problems
The old page still opens on my phone
Your browser is showing its cached copy of the old destination. Open the scan in a private window, or clear the browser cache, and scan again. A phone that has never opened the code sees the new destination straight away.
There is no Edit option, or the fields are greyed out
The code is static. Only its name, tags and folder can change; create a dynamic code for the next print run.
I picked the wrong type
You can change the type while editing, but switching clears the content you entered for the previous type, and the Dynamic/Static mode stays as it was — both tabs are disabled in edit mode with Mode cannot be changed after creation.
The code stopped working entirely after an edit
Check the Rules & Limits section on the Content step. An expiry date in the past, a scan limit that has been reached, or an archived status will stop a code regardless of its destination.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to reprint after changing the destination?
No. The printed pattern encodes a fixed QRCodeStack link, so every copy already in the world picks up the new destination on the next scan.
How many times can I change it?
As often as you like. There is no limit on edits and no charge for them.
How long does the change take?
It applies to the next scan. There is no propagation delay on our side.
Do I lose my scan history when I edit?
No. Scans stay attached to the code, so your analytics run across the old and new destinations.
Can I edit a static QR code's link?
No. A static code carries its content inside the pattern. Create a dynamic code and use it on your next print run.
