What happens to my QR codes if my subscription ends?
Updated September 14, 2026 · 3 min read
Your dynamic QR codes stop redirecting. Anyone who scans one sees a page headed This page is taking a short break instead of your destination. Nothing is deleted: the codes, their settings and their scan history stay in your account, and subscribing again brings the same codes back — every printed copy starts working again with no reprint. Static codes are unaffected, because their content is inside the printed pattern.
What scanners see
The page says "The code you scanned isn't active right now — please check back soon." It does not name you, show your destination, or say anything about billing to the person scanning.
Below that is a short note for you, the owner, with a link to sign in and reactivate. Your short links behave the same way: they stop resolving while the plan is lapsed.
What you keep
- Every QR code, with its name, destination, design, folder and tags.
- All of your scan history. Analytics stay readable on every plan, including after a subscription ends — you can still open reports for scans collected while you were subscribed.
- Your account, team and settings.
- Static QR codes. They encode their content directly, never touch our servers when scanned, and keep working forever.
What stops
- Redirects. Dynamic codes and short links stop sending people anywhere.
- New scans. Blocked scans are not added to your analytics, so the history freezes where it stopped.
- Creating and editing. You cannot create new codes.
- Downloads drop to basic. PNG only, at 512 px, in RGB — no JPEG, SVG or PDF, no larger sizes, no CMYK and no print page sizes.
- Countries, cities and the map are no longer shown, which is the change trial users notice first.
Worth doing before it ends
If you know the subscription is ending, two things are easier to do while you still have a paid plan:
- Download the artwork you might need again. Once the plan lapses, downloads drop to a 512 px PNG, so grab the SVG or print-ready PDF of anything heading for a printer first.
- Take a copy of your data.
Settings → Profile → Privacy & Data→ Export my data gives you a file containing your account, your QR codes, your scan analytics and your subscription records.
Neither is urgent — nothing is deleted when a subscription ends — but both are quicker while you are still on a paid plan.
How to bring your codes back
- Sign in and open
Settings → Personal settings → Billing. - Pick a plan on the Choose a Plan card and click Subscribe.
- Complete the payment.
Your codes start redirecting again within moments, at the same web addresses, so everything already printed or shared works as before. If you now have more codes than the plan you chose allows, see what happens when you are over your plan limit.
Any plan reactivates every code — you do not have to return to the plan you were on. The only thing the plan controls is how many codes stay active.
Common problems
Only some of my codes stopped
Then the cause is not billing. Static codes never stop, and codes you archived earlier stop with a different page, headed QR Code Unavailable.
My renewal failed — is this the same thing?
No. A failed payment gives you a grace window in which everything still works; see what happens when a payment fails.
I resubscribed but one code is still dead
Check whether it is archived, past an expiry date you set, or has hit a scan limit. Those are separate switches from billing.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to reprint anything after resubscribing?
No. The printed pattern points at the same address, so every existing copy starts working again.
Is my scan history deleted?
No. Analytics stay readable after a subscription ends; you keep everything collected while you were subscribed.
Do static QR codes stop too?
No. A static code carries its content in the pattern, so it never depends on your subscription.
Does the scanner see that I stopped paying?
No. The page only says the code is not active right now.
What happens at the end of the free trial?
The same thing: trial codes stop redirecting and static creation and full-quality downloads are no longer available until you subscribe.

How do I cancel my subscription (and can I undo it)?
Billing → Manage Subscription opens the Dodo portal, where you cancel. Access runs to the end of the paid period, and Undo Cancellation reverses it until then.
Will my QRCodeStack QR code expire or stop working?
Static codes never expire. Dynamic codes work while your plan is active and stop only if it lapses, or if you archive the code, schedule it or cap its scans.
How does the 7-day free trial work, and what happens when it ends?
Seven days, no card, 5 dynamic QR codes and 25 short links with full downloads and the scan map. When it ends, codes stop redirecting until you subscribe.
My payment failed. What happens now?
A failed renewal puts the subscription on hold and opens a 13-day window where everything keeps working. Use Fix Payment Method to update the card.
