How do I organise QR codes with folders, tags, search and filters?
Updated September 14, 2026 · 3 min read
My QR Codes has four tools and they stack. A folder is where a code lives — one folder per code, with one level of subfolder allowed. A tag is a coloured label and a code can carry several, so tags cut across folders. Search by name..., the All / Static / Dynamic tabs, Filter and Sort by then narrow whatever is on screen. You can also set the folder and tags while you create a code, in the Organization section.
Folders: one home per code
- Create a folder. Click Create New at the top right and choose Create Folder, or use the New folder button in the Folders panel on the left. Name it in the Create new folder dialog.
- Create a subfolder. Open a folder first — the same menu item then reads Create Subfolder. You can also switch on Include as subfolder in the create dialog and pick a Parent folder. Nesting stops at one level.
- Move a code in. Use the ⋮ menu on its row and choose Move to folder.
- Rename or delete. Inside a folder, use the ⋮ menu beside the folder name for Rename or Delete.
Deleting a folder never deletes codes. The dialog says it plainly: the folder is removed and QR codes inside it will become uncategorized.
Finding a code in a long list
- Search by name... matches the name you gave the code — another reason to name codes at creation rather than leave them unnamed.
- The All / Static / Dynamic tabs split the list by mode.
- Filter opens a Filter results panel with three groups: status (Active, Archived), QR code type, and Tags. Click See results to apply.
- Sort by offers Most recent, Name, Most scanned and Last modified.
When filters are on, a Filters applied bar appears above the list with a chip per group and a Clean filters button that clears all of them at once.
Organise while you create, not afterwards
On the Content step of the wizard there is an Organization section — Assign to folders & tags. It has a Folder selector, which defaults to No folder, and a Tags control with + New tag. Filling it in takes five seconds and saves a tidy-up later.
A naming convention helps as much as the folders do. If you print one code per table, per shelf or per location, name them that way — Table 12, Shelf A3 — so Most scanned tells you something useful. For a worked example of that pattern, see tracking inventory with QR codes and a spreadsheet.
Common problems
A code I know exists is missing from the list
A filter or a folder is hiding it. Look for the Filters applied bar and click Clean filters, then switch the tab back to All, and check whether you are inside a folder rather than at the top level.
Create Subfolder is not offered
You are either at the top level — open the parent folder first — or already one level deep. Folders nest one level only.
The search finds nothing
Search matches names, not destinations or content. An unnamed code cannot be found this way; open it and click its name to rename it inline.
Archived codes clutter the list
Filter by status Active. Archived codes stay listed on purpose so they can be reactivated — see archiving versus deleting a QR code.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a limit on folders or tags?
No count limit is applied. Folders nest one level deep, and a code can carry several tags.
Can one code be in two folders?
No. A code has one folder. Use tags when you need a code to belong to more than one group.
Does deleting a folder delete the codes inside it?
No. The codes stay and become uncategorised.
Can I filter by folder and tag at the same time?
Yes. Open the folder, then apply tag filters inside it — the filters narrow whatever the list is showing.
Can I group codes for campaign reporting instead?
Yes. Campaigns group links, QR codes and pages and set UTM defaults once — see the campaigns article.

How do I track inventory or assets with QR codes from a spreadsheet?
One row per item, one record URL per row, one dynamic QR code per URL. Create each code in the wizard, organise with folders and tags, label the item.
How do I group QR codes and links into a campaign?
Open Campaigns, click New campaign, name it and set UTM defaults, then use Attach to add links, QR codes and pages. Campaigns are on every plan.
How do I create my first dynamic QR code?
Click Create new, pick a type, leave the toggle on Dynamic, fill in the content, style it, then click Download. The code is saved with its redirect built in.
What is the difference between archiving and deleting a QR code?
Archiving is reversible: the code stops redirecting but keeps its scans and can be unarchived within your plan limits. Deleting is permanent, with no trash.
