How do I group QR codes and links into a campaign?
Updated September 14, 2026 · 3 min read
Open Campaigns — it is in the sidebar under More — and click New campaign. Give it a name and, if you want, UTM defaults. Open the campaign and click Attach to add existing links, QR codes and pages. The campaign then shows one combined total of clicks and scans, and every member link picks up the UTM defaults. Campaigns are available on every plan, including the free trial.
Steps: create a campaign and attach things to it
- Open Campaigns from the sidebar under More.
- Click New campaign.
- Type a Name — something you will recognise in six months, such as "Summer sale 2026".
- Fill in UTM defaults if you want them:
utm_source,utm_mediumandutm_campaign. They are optional and you can add them later. - Click Create campaign.
- Open the campaign and click Attach. The dialog has three tabs — Links, QR codes and Pages. Tick what belongs and confirm.
You can also pick a campaign while creating a short link: the Campaign dropdown sits on the link form under Tags. Click Edit on the campaign at any time to rename it or change the UTM defaults.
What inherits the UTM defaults
This is the part that surprises people, so it is worth stating plainly.
- Short links inherit them. A link in the campaign appends the campaign's UTM values to its destination on every click.
- QR code scans do not. Attaching a QR code puts it in the campaign's totals, but the campaign's UTM values are never added to a scan. To tag a QR code, set UTM values on the code itself — see UTM parameters and Google Analytics.
- It is all or nothing per link. If a link sets any UTM value of its own, it inherits none of the campaign's — not even the ones it left blank. Set all three on the link, or set none and let the campaign supply them.
A short link that needs its own utm_content is better handled by putting the full set on the link and leaving the campaign's defaults for everything else.
What the numbers on a campaign mean
Each campaign row shows one headline figure — clicks plus scans added together — with the split underneath as "1,240 clicks - 310 scans". Inside the campaign the same split appears above the tabs, with a count on each tab so you can see how many links, QR codes and pages are attached.
Campaigns are a grouping, not an analytics report. For device, country and time-of-day breakdowns, open a specific code or link in Analytics.
Removing things and deleting a campaign
Detaching a single item leaves it working and simply removes it from the group; it stops inheriting the UTM defaults from the next click.
Deleting the whole campaign does the same thing to every member at once: "Its links and QR codes keep working — they just leave the campaign and stop inheriting its UTM defaults." Nothing printed breaks, no link 404s, and no scan history is lost. What you do lose is the grouping and the combined total, and that cannot be undone — you would have to create a new campaign and attach everything again.
Common problems
My UTM values are not reaching Google Analytics
Check whether the traffic came from a QR scan. Campaign UTM defaults only apply to short-link clicks. Check too whether the link sets a UTM of its own — one value on the link cancels the whole campaign set.
A QR code is in the campaign but its scans are not counted
Scans are counted in the campaign total. What is not applied is the UTM tagging. If the scan total is genuinely zero, check the code is not archived and the account is not lapsed.
I cannot find the Campaigns page
It is under More in the sidebar, alongside Marketing, Data Hub, Affiliates, QR Stickers and Ask AI.
The Pages tab is empty
Pages are still being finished and show a "Coming soon" notice in the product, so there will be nothing to attach on that tab yet. Links and QR codes work normally.
Frequently asked questions
Do campaigns cost extra?
No. Campaigns are on every plan, including the free trial, with no cap on how many you create.
Can one link belong to two campaigns?
No. A link, QR code or page belongs to one campaign at a time. Attaching it elsewhere moves it.
Do campaigns have start and end dates?
No. There are no dates and no statuses — a campaign is a grouping plus a set of UTM defaults.
Does deleting a campaign break its QR codes?
No. Every link and code keeps working; they just leave the group and stop inheriting the UTM defaults.
Can I set utm_term or utm_content on a campaign?
Not from the dashboard. The campaign form offers utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign only.
