Which plans include city and map scan analytics?

Updated September 14, 2026 · 3 min read · Business and the free trial

The Scan Locations block on the Analytics page — the map plus Countries, Regions, Cities and Pincodes — and the Busiest Times grid are included on the 7-day free trial and on the Business plan. Starter and Pro do not include them: those plans still get devices, operating systems, browsers, referrers, campaigns and all the scan counts, but no city detail and no map. This catches people out most often at the end of the trial, because the map is part of what the trial shows you.

What each plan sees

Top countries still appear for every plan on the Scan Insights card on dashboard home, so a Starter or Pro account is never completely blind to geography — it just has no city, region, pincode or map view on the Analytics page.

Scans and devices are unaffected on every plan. For the full list of what each tier includes, see plans and limits.

Where to find it

  1. Open Analytics in the sidebar.
  2. Set the date range you want.
  3. Scan Locations is the first block under the summary cards: the map fills two thirds of the panel, with Countries, Regions, Cities and Pincodes stacked beside it.
  4. Pick a single code in the QR picker to see Recent scans, a row-by-row feed with the location of each scan.

An empty world map with no pins is normal before your first scans arrive — the panel is always drawn for entitled plans so you can tell the difference between "no data yet" and "feature missing".

How accurate the locations are

Location is estimated from the scanner's IP address, so it is accurate to roughly the city and can be wrong when someone is on a VPN, a corporate network or a mobile gateway in another city. The panel says so in a tooltip: results may vary depending on network provider and VPN usage.

A pincode row marked (approx) was derived from the IP estimate rather than from a device's real coordinates. Exact coordinates only arrive when a scanner agrees to share them — that is the separate GPS Tracking switch, which is a per-code setting, not a plan-wide one.

Busiest Times shows hours in the scanner's own local time zone, resolved from the same location data, so 7 PM means 7 PM wherever they were standing.

What happens when the trial ends

If you subscribe to Starter or Pro, the block is replaced by a card that says: "Countries, cities, the map and busiest times in the scanner's own local time zone were part of your free trial — keep them with the Business plan."

Nothing is deleted. Location was recorded on the scans that happened while you had the feature, and it becomes visible again the moment the account is on a plan that includes it.

Turning on the per-code GPS Tracking switch does not add city analytics to a Starter or Pro plan. The two settings are independent, and the switch itself needs the same entitlement.

Common problems

The Scan Locations card shows an Upgrade button

The account is on Starter or Pro, or the trial has ended. Business is the plan that includes it.

Cities are blank but countries are filled in

Older scans recorded before city capture was switched on carry a country only. New scans fill in the rest.

A scan is attributed to the wrong city

The visitor was on a VPN or a mobile network whose gateway sits elsewhere. There is no way to correct an individual row.

My CSV export has empty Country and City columns

Those columns are only filled for plans that include location analytics. See exporting scan data to CSV.

Frequently asked questions

Does Pro include the scan map?

No. Among the paid plans only Business includes cities, regions, pincodes and the map. Pro includes pixels, UTM parameters, scheduling, passwords and the API instead.

Do I lose the location data I already collected?

No. It stays on the scans and becomes visible again on a plan that includes the feature.

Can I see the exact address of a scan?

Only when the scanner agrees to share precise coordinates through the GPS Tracking switch on a Business plan. Otherwise it is a city-level estimate.

Do short links get the same location detail?

Yes — click locations follow the same plan rule as scan locations.

Is location recorded during the trial even if I never open the map?

Yes. It is recorded on every scan while the plan includes location analytics.
