How do I create and insert QR codes inside Canva?

Updated September 14, 2026 · 3 min read

Open any Canva design, click Apps in the left side panel and search for QRCodeStack. Open the app and click Connect QRCodeStack to sign in — you can create an account from that screen if you do not have one yet. The connected app has two tabs: Create, which builds a Website or URL code and drops it straight onto the page, and My codes, which lists the codes already on your account so you can Add one to the design. Every code the app inserts is dynamic, so you can change where it points later from your dashboard without touching the design.

Add the app and connect your account

  1. Open a design. The app lives in the side panel of an open Canva design, not in the Canva home screen.
  2. Click Apps in the left side panel and type QRCodeStack in the search box.
  3. Open the app. It stays pinned in your side panel afterwards, so the next design is one click.
  4. Click Connect QRCodeStack. A QRCodeStack sign-in page opens. Sign in, or sign up from the same screen if this is your first code.
  5. Approve the access. The consent screen lists what the app can do: view your QR codes, and insert them into Canva designs.

The connection is per Canva account, so you do this once. There is more background on the Canva integration page.

Create a code without leaving Canva

  1. Open the Create tab.
  2. Leave Type on Website or URL and paste the destination, starting with https://.
  3. Pick a Design theme. Open Customize style if you want to set the module shape, the code, background and corner colours, or upload a logo.
  4. Watch the preview — it is captioned Live preview — editable & trackable after create, meaning the real, tracked code is made when you click the button.
  5. Click Create & add to design. The code is saved to your QRCodeStack account and placed on the current page.

Resize and position it like any other Canva element. Keep it square — stretching a QR code out of square breaks scanning.

How do I add a vCard, PDF, WiFi or menu code?

Only Website and URL codes can be built inside Canva. Pick any other type in the Type list and the app says This type is locked in Canva. Create it on the QRCodeStack website (sign in if asked), then return here and add it from My codes.

  1. Click Create on QRCodeStack website. Canva asks you to confirm before opening an external page.
  2. Build the code in the dashboard wizard and save it.
  3. Come back to Canva, open My codes, search for it by name and click Add.

Anything already on your account shows up in My codes with its type and a Dynamic or Static label, so codes you made months ago can go straight into a design.

What happens after you insert a code

The element on the canvas is an image of the code. The code itself is hosted on your QRCodeStack account, which is what makes the rest work:

  • You can repoint it. Change the destination in the dashboard and every printed and published copy follows immediately. See editing a QR code's destination.
  • Scans are counted. Exporting, printing or publishing the Canva design does not break tracking — the image still points at the same redirect.
  • Plan matters. The app states it plainly: your codes stay editable from the dashboard, and if your plan ends, scans pause until you reactivate while the design image stays where it is.

Creating a code in Canva uses the same dynamic QR allowance as creating one in the dashboard. The Canva card on the dashboard Integrations page is listed from the Starter plan up.

Common problems

The app keeps showing the connect screen

The sign-in did not complete, usually because the pop-up was blocked or the sign-in tab was closed early. Click Connect QRCodeStack again and finish the sign-in in the tab that opens.

Creating fails and asks me to reconnect

The connection was made without permission to create codes. Disconnect and connect again, and approve both permissions on the consent screen.

Create fails with a plan limit message

You have used every dynamic QR code on your plan. Delete or archive a code you no longer need, or move up a plan — see plans and limits.

A code I made in the dashboard is not in My codes

Type its name into the search box and click Search; the list loads the most recent codes first. If it still does not appear, you are connected to a different QRCodeStack account than the one that owns the code.

Frequently asked questions

Do QR codes made through the Canva app expire?

No. They keep working for as long as the account that owns them is active. If a plan lapses, scans pause rather than the code being deleted — reactivate and the same printed code works again.

Can I change the destination after the design is printed?

Yes. That is the point of a dynamic code: edit the destination in your QRCodeStack dashboard and every copy already printed follows the change.

Can I use my own colours and logo?

Yes. Pick a Design theme, or open Customize style to set the module shape, the code, background and corner colours, and upload a logo.

Which plan do I need?

Canva is listed on the dashboard Integrations page from the Starter plan up, and every code you insert uses your dynamic QR allowance, so you need room left on your plan.

Do scan counts survive exporting or printing the design?

Yes. The exported image still points at the same redirect, so scans from a printed poster are recorded exactly like scans from a screen.
