No free tool gives you dynamic codes with real analytics and no strings attached; every "free dynamic" offer hides ads, code caps or a trial in disguise.

A static QR code encodes the destination directly in the pattern, so it works forever, costs nothing to host and shows no scan data. A dynamic QR code encodes a redirect URL the provider owns, so you can edit the destination and count scans. That redirect is a hosted service, so "free dynamic" is always subsidized by ads, upsells or an expiry date.

According to each vendor's own pages (QR Code Monkey, Adobe Express, GoQR.me, Me-QR, QR Tiger), October 2026:

QR Code Monkey is the pick for print-quality static codes with a logo. Adobe Express is the cleanest option for a tidy branded URL code. Canva is fastest when the QR lives inside a menu, poster or business card design. GoQR.me handles URL, text, vCard, SMS and Wi-Fi codes in under a minute. Me-QR has the largest free dynamic allowance here (QR Tiger's free plan stops at 3 codes), and the ads make it a poor fit for anything customer-facing.

What are the four traps in "free dynamic" QR codes?

1. Ads on the scan redirect. The scan is when your customer pays maximum attention. Ask any vendor whether free-tier scans pass through an ad page.
2. Trials dressed up as free tiers. A "free dynamic" code that lapses in 7 or 14 days is a trial. Ours is labeled as one: 7 days, 5 dynamic codes, no credit card.

Do free QR codes expire, and can they track scans?

Static codes cannot expire because no server is involved, and they report nothing. Dynamic codes stop working when the redirect behind them stops: a trial ends, a free tier is discontinued or a subscription is cancelled. A UTM-tagged URL shows sessions in GA4, not scans; per-scan analytics needs a dynamic code.
