Trackable QR code generator — know who scanned, when and where
Make a QR code whose every scan is recorded: time, city, device, operating system and browser. The printed pattern never changes, so you can edit the destination later without losing the history.

A QR code is only trackable if it redirects
There are two kinds of QR code and only one of them can be measured. A static code has the destination baked into the black-and-white pattern; the phone reads the URL and goes straight there, so nothing ever touches a server you own and there is nothing to count.
A trackable code encodes a short redirect instead. The phone opens that redirect, we record the scan, and the visitor lands on your page a fraction of a second later. That single hop is what makes scan counts, device splits and location data possible — and it is also what lets you change the destination after the poster is printed.
Every code this generator makes is the second kind. There is no separate “tracking” upgrade to buy and no pixel to install on your own site. If you want the mechanics in more depth, static vs dynamic QR codes covers the trade-off properly.
What one scan tells you
Time and date
Every scan is timestamped, so you can see the spike after a mailer lands or the dead hours on a shop-window code.
Device and OS
Phone brand and model, operating system and browser — useful when a code has to work on a decade of Android handsets.
Location
City-level location on a map, included during the trial and on the Business plan. Starter and Pro see top countries.
How to make one
Four steps, no design file required.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Pick a type | URL, PDF, vCard, Wi-Fi, menu, app download — 37+ types, all of them trackable |
| 2. Set the destination | Paste the link or upload the file the code should open |
| 3. Brand it | Logo in the middle, your colours, a frame and a call to action if you want one |
| 4. Download | PNG or JPEG for screens, SVG or PDF for print at any size |
Need hundreds at once rather than one? Bulk generation builds them from a CSV in a single pass on Pro and Business.
The destination stays editable
This is the part that pays for itself. Because the printed pattern points at a redirect rather than at your landing page, you can repoint it whenever you like — to a new campaign, a sold-out notice, a different language, a replacement PDF — and every copy already in the world follows immediately.
The scan history follows too. Editing a destination does not reset the counter, so a code on a product box can run for years across half a dozen campaigns and still show you one continuous record.
Codes stay live for as long as the subscription does, and we never deactivate a code that is already printed to push you onto a bigger plan. Do QR codes expire? explains exactly what can and cannot stop one working.
Beyond the scan count
Retargeting pixels
Fire Meta, TikTok and Google Ads tags on scan so an offline audience becomes an addressable one. Pro and Business.
UTM tagging
Build consistent UTMs into the destination so scans show up properly attributed in GA4 rather than as direct traffic.
Scan alerts
Get an email when a code is scanned, which is how people use these for deliveries, asset tags and pet collars. Pro and Business.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a static QR code be tracked?
No. A static QR code has the destination encoded directly in the pattern, so the scan never passes through a server that could count it. Tracking requires a dynamic code that redirects — and every code made here is dynamic.
Does tracking slow the scan down?
Not noticeably. The redirect adds a server round trip measured in milliseconds; the visitor sees the destination open as normal.
Do I lose the scan history if I change the destination?
No. Editing where a code points does not reset anything. The code keeps one continuous history across every destination it has ever had.
Do scanners see any QRCodeStack branding?
No. There are never ads or third-party branding on a scan, on any plan. The Business plan additionally removes QRCodeStack branding from the scan pages themselves — see white-label QR codes.
How many trackable codes do I get?
Five on the 7-day free trial with no card. After that: 10 on Starter at $9/month, 50 on Pro at $19/month and 600 on Business at $59/month. Full detail on pricing.
