QR Code Generator Pricing 2026: What 8 Tools Really Cost (Including Year 3)

Published July 26, 2026 · MARKETING · 9 min read

As of mid-2026, dynamic QR code generators run from $5/month (QRCodeStack) to $250/month (Flowcode Growth). Over three years, the same "cheap-looking" tools spread from about $144 to over $9,000 — and the gap comes less from the sticker price than from annual-only billing, renewal increases, and the tier you actually end up needing.

Full disclosure up front: QRCodeStack is our product. We'll show you our numbers next to everyone else's and flag exactly where the traps are — including the one that applies to us too.

The headline numbers: 8 tools at a glance

Prices below are the publicly listed entry points for dynamic QR plans as of mid-2026. Always check current pricing before you commit; this category reprices often.

Tool Entry price (dynamic) Monthly billing available? Ads on scan pages? Notable catch
QRCodeStack $5/mo (or $48/yr) Yes, every tier Never No forever-free tier
QR Tiger ~$7/mo (Regular) Only on Regular No Higher tiers are annual-only
Bitly ~$10/mo Yes No, but free codes carry Bitly branding QR is bundled with link plans
Uniqode ~$15/mo billed annually No — all plans annual-only No Reported 40–60% renewal hikes in 2026
QRFY ~$20/mo effective (roundup figure) Varies No Mid-pack pricing, watch tier limits
QR.io ~$35/mo effective (roundup figure) Varies No One of the priciest per 3-year roundup math
Flowcode ~$60/mo (Pro) Pro yes; Growth annual-only No Growth is ~$250/mo, annual-only
Me-QR Free tier available Paid tiers vary Yes — free-tier scans can route through ad pages "Free" costs you your scanner's attention

Three things matter more than that first column: the tier you'll really need, the bill over one and three years, and what happens when you stop paying.

Entry price vs. the tier you actually need

Entry tiers exist to get you in the door. The features marketers actually run on — retargeting pixels, GPS-level analytics, API access, bulk creation — usually live one or two tiers up.

Concrete examples:

  • QR Tiger advertises from ~$7/mo, but retargeting requires Google Tag Manager workarounds and only unlocks on Advanced (~$16/mo) — which, along with Premium and Business, is annual-only. The only tier you can pay monthly is the one without the feature you probably came for.
  • Bitly's QR plans start around $10/mo, but they're bundled into link-management plans, so you're partly paying for short-link features you may never touch.
  • Flowcode Pro at ~$60/mo is genuinely strong on design and attribution, but the enterprise features that justify Flowcode live on Growth at ~$250/mo, annual-only. That's a ~$3,000 decision, not a $60 one.
  • QRCodeStack: our Starter at $5/mo covers dynamic codes and scan analytics, but native pixel events (Meta, GA4, GTM, TikTok firing on every scan) require Pro at $12/mo. We'd rather tell you that here than have you find out at checkout.

The honest way to compare pricing is to pick the feature you need first, then price the tier that has it. Do that and the rankings shuffle noticeably.

What 1 year really costs

Assumptions: the cheapest tier that includes dynamic QR codes with analytics, paid the cheapest way each vendor allows. Roundup-derived figures are marked.

Tool Year-1 cost (entry dynamic tier) Year-1 cost (tier with retargeting/pixels)
QRCodeStack $48 (annual) / $60 (monthly) $115 (Pro annual)
QR Tiger ~$84 ~$192 (Advanced, annual-only, via GTM)
Bitly ~$120 ~$120+ (depends on plan mix)
Uniqode ~$180 (annual-only) ~$180+
QRFY ~$240 (third-party roundup math) varies
QR.io ~$420 (third-party roundup math) varies
Flowcode ~$720 (Pro) ~$720–$3,000 (Pro–Growth)
Me-QR $0 (with ads on scans) paid tier required, pricing varies

Already the spread is wide: $48 to $720 for functionally similar core capability — a dynamic code you can edit, with scan counts.

What 3 years really costs

Three years is the honest horizon for QR pricing, because printed codes outlive billing cycles. That menu, packaging run, or equipment label will still be in the wild in 2029.

Tool 3-year cost (illustrative) How we got there
QRCodeStack Starter ~$144 $48/yr × 3, no forced upgrades
QR Tiger Regular ~$252 $84/yr × 3
QRCodeStack Pro ~$345 $115/yr × 3, pixels included
Bitly ~$360 $120/yr × 3
QR Tiger Advanced ~$576 $192/yr × 3, annual-only
Uniqode ~$700+ $180 year 1, then reported 40–60% renewal increases
QRFY ~$720 third-party roundup figure
Flowcode Pro ~$2,160 $720/yr × 3 (roundups cite ~$900 for lighter configurations)
QR.io ~$1,260 third-party roundup figure
Flowcode Growth ~$9,000 $3,000/yr × 3, annual-only

Treat every number as illustrative, not a quote — vendors reprice, run promos, and grandfather (or don't). Which brings us to the traps.

Trap 1: annual-only billing

Annual-only billing means your minimum experiment costs a full year. Want to try Uniqode for a campaign quarter? That's ~$180 minimum, because every plan is billed annually. QR Tiger lets you pay monthly only on its Regular tier; step up to the tiers with the good features and you're locked into 12 months. Flowcode Growth: same, at ~$3,000 a pop.

Monthly billing is the pricing feature nobody lists on the pricing page. Every QRCodeStack tier — Starter, Pro, Business — has it. That's a deliberate choice, because most of the mid-market has quietly gone annual-only.

Where competitors genuinely beat us: Flowcode's design and attribution suite is the category's best if you have enterprise budget, and Uniqode is strong on enterprise ops and Google Business Profile workflows. If those are your requirements, their premium is arguably worth it. Price the requirement, not the brochure.

Trap 2: renewal increases

Your year-1 price is a promise; your year-2 price is a policy. The sharpest 2026 example: Uniqode customers reported 40–60% renewal increases in March 2026, with no grandfathering. On a $180/yr plan, that's a $250–290 renewal for the same product — and because plans are annual-only, the alternative to paying is migrating every printed code before your term lapses.

Questions to ask any vendor (including us) before you buy:

  1. Is my renewal price the same as my signup price?
  2. Are existing customers grandfathered when list prices rise?
  3. If I downgrade, do my existing codes keep working?
  4. Can I export my scan data and destination URLs?

Vendors with confident answers put them in writing. Vendors without them say "contact sales."

Trap 3: cancellation kills your codes

This one applies to every dynamic-QR vendor, us included, so read it before you print 10,000 boxes: when you cancel a dynamic QR subscription, the codes stop redirecting. Dynamic codes work by routing scans through the vendor's servers — that's what makes them editable and trackable (here's the full static-vs-dynamic breakdown). No active account, no redirect. Your printed code now points at an error page, or worse, a parked page.

Budget accordingly: the real cost of a dynamic QR isn't the subscription, it's the subscription for the lifespan of the printed material. A code on product packaging with a 3-year shelf life is a 3-year commitment, whichever vendor you pick. That's why the 3-year table above is the one that matters.

The one-time pack alternative (the math)

If your need is small and fixed — a wedding, a single menu, one packaging run — a subscription is the wrong shape entirely. This is where we'll unapologetically pitch our own thing, because nobody else in the category offers it: QRCodeStack one-time packs. Pay once, no subscription: $1 for a single dynamic QR, $6 for 50, $10 for 100.

The math against subscriptions:

  • 1 dynamic code, 3 years: one-time pack $1 vs. cheapest subscription ~$144 (our own Starter). The pack wins by 144x.
  • 50 codes, 3 years: $6 once vs. $252–$720 on entry subscriptions.
  • 100 codes, 3 years: $10 once vs. anything above.

The trade-off, stated plainly: packs don't include the subscription-tier extras like pixel retargeting, and they're for stable, defined needs — not for teams generating codes continuously. If you're running ongoing campaigns with scan analytics feeding ad audiences, Pro at $115/yr is the right shape. If you need three codes that just work for years, $1 each is the right shape. Most vendors only sell you the first shape.

One more line item: ads on scan pages. Me-QR's free tier can route scans through ad pages before your destination — your customer scans your packaging and sees someone else's ad. No QRCodeStack tier does that, including the trial and one-time packs. More on picking tools by business size in our small business QR guide.

FAQ

How much does a QR code generator cost in 2026?

Static QR generators are free. Dynamic QR generators (editable destination, scan tracking) run from $5/mo (QRCodeStack Starter) to ~$250/mo (Flowcode Growth) as of mid-2026, with most mid-market tools at $7–$20/mo. Over three years, expect roughly $144 at the low end to $700–$2,000+ once renewal increases and tier upgrades are counted.

What is the cheapest dynamic QR code generator?

For subscriptions, QRCodeStack Starter at $5/mo ($48/yr) is the cheapest paid entry in the category as of mid-2026, with monthly billing on every tier. For small fixed needs, QRCodeStack's one-time packs ($1 for one code, $6 for 50, $10 for 100) are cheaper than any subscription — pay once, no recurring bill.

Do QR codes stop working if I cancel my subscription?

Dynamic QR codes do, with every vendor — cancellation stops the redirect that makes the code work. Static QR codes never expire because they encode the content directly, but they can't be edited or tracked. Before printing at scale, match your subscription horizon to your print material's lifespan, or use a one-time pack for fixed needs.

Why do QR code generators charge annual-only pricing?

It locks in revenue and raises switching costs: your printed codes depend on the vendor's redirect servers, so leaving mid-term means reprinting. Uniqode is annual-only on all plans; QR Tiger's upper tiers and Flowcode Growth are too. If you want a low-commitment test, favor tools with monthly billing on the tier you actually need.

The bottom line: price the tier with the feature you need, over the lifespan of what you're printing, with renewal policy in writing. On that math we think we win most small and mid-size use cases — and where we don't, we've told you who does. See the full breakdown at /pricing, or create a dynamic QR code on the free 3-day trial (no card required) — and if you're on Pro, wire it to fire a named Meta Lead event on every scan, so your first printed code starts building a retargeting audience from day one.
