Direct mail QR code: know which drop got scanned

A direct mail QR code gives a postcard the response tracking it normally lacks. Print a different dynamic code for each drop or list, see scans by code, and change the landing page even after the mail has left.

No credit card required. Plans from $9 a month after the trial.

How to set it up

  1. Create one dynamic code per mail drop, list or creative.
  2. Add UTM parameters on Pro or Business so the visits show up correctly in your analytics.
  3. Download a vector PDF or SVG for your printer, with CMYK available on paid plans.
  4. Scan a printed proof with a phone before you approve the run.

Our print guide puts a flyer or brochure code at 2 cm minimum. Leave the white margin around the code clear.

What it cannot do

A code per drop is the practical setup. A unique dynamic code per recipient uses up your plan quickly: Pro includes 50 dynamic codes and Business includes 600. Scan data is per code and does not identify the person who scanned.

Why dynamic matters for mail

Mail keeps turning up long after a campaign ends. With a dynamic code you can point a finished offer at a current one, rather than sending late scanners to a dead page. See campaign management for running several drops together.

Make the mail piece earn the scan

A code on its own rarely gets scanned. Put a clear reason beside it, such as "Scan to book your free quote" or "Scan for 10% off this month", and give it room on the card rather than hiding it in a corner. Send people to a page made for that mailer, with the same headline and offer, not your homepage.

Keep some of your list as a comparison. If one drop uses a code and another uses a phone number, you can see which response route people choose. Compare drops by scans per thousand pieces sent, because raw scan counts favour the bigger mailing.

A coupon code suits offers, and a landing page code works if you do not have a page ready to send people to.

Common questions

Which plan do I need?

Starter covers a few drops. Pro adds UTM tools and takes you to 50 dynamic codes. Business takes you to 600.

What happens to the code when the campaign ends?

It keeps working while your subscription is active, and you can repoint it at any time. Dynamic codes stop resolving if the subscription ends.

Test it on your next drop
